Dear Halewijn
As you know , my english is poor
I tried my best
Halewijn,
It's a long time we didn't talk together. We have been very near
and then so far and now you leave us.
You have been a time in space, a light in life, a life force
in Turkana
Today you will be a bright star in the african
sky .
Our paths together have been strong, emotional, thoughtful, creative,
uncompromising, passionate, full ... as was our friendship based
on respect, commitment and intelligence.
You have been to me a model, an astonishment, a rarity, a human
being. You opened me to the magic Turkana, the Jade Sea, which
inspired the name of one of my daughters - Jade. You always surprised
me, your ability to take apart an engine and work late up into the night,
your practical intelligence which could be also be a purely conceptual
approach, the 5 languages you spoke, your overactivity that made
you go from 5 days non stop of discussions, dreams, works, mechanicals
and reparations to 3 days disappearing into your room with 10
liters of milk to drink.
You have always been excessive and that is your strength and
your quality, and at the same time our exasperation. We, Joyce,
you and me, have been dreaming to Lobolo Springs and created Jade
Sea Journeys. We have been boating from Omo River to Nabuyatom,
passing through Ferguson Gulf and Central Island.
You became Kenyan and then a Turkana citizen ( Halewijn was given the name Ekidor) without denying your
European origins.
You had a full life without compromise.
Even what's happened in between us, you must know that I have
never forgotten what I owe you.
The only thing I'm sure, is that I will join you in the African
sky. When? I don't know but for sure we shall have enough time
to finish our conversations
Joyce, Jalida and Ngalivia
I can tell you that Halewijn
was a man I loved.
See you somewhere.
Christophe
